2008 Marriott Hotel Plotter Qari Yasin Killed By American Drone In Afghanistan

American drone strike killed known Pakistani militant Qari Yasin in Afghanistan.

Yasin is accused of have planned a devastating six-wheel truck bomb attack in 2008 at Marriott Hotel in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad that killed dozens including two members of the American military. He is learned to have closely aligned with Al Qaeda.

He is also said to be one of the planners in Sri Lanka national cricket team attack in Pakistan.

Pentagon said the American drone strike killed him on March 19 in Paktika Province, the place of many Pakistani Taliban operatives.

The strike reveals America’s battle against Al Qaeda has continued even though there’s an increase in the fight against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

The 2008 blast was very powerful and blew up at the entrance of the hotel. Investigation found over 1,300 pounds of explosives were used that was able to create a crater of 60 feet wide and 25 feet deep.

The Sri Lanka cricket team attack in Lahore took place in 2009 when gunmen equipped with grenades, rifles and rockets assaulted a bus that was transporting the players. Two civilians and six police officers were killed. Since then most of the home matches were shifted to United Arab Emirates.

“The death of Qari Yasin is evidence that terrorists who defame Islam and deliberately target innocent people will not escape justice,” Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in a statement.
